Busy Bags

Assalamu’alaikum & Marhaba!

Spring break is here and many of you are preparing to use this time for a small getaway!  Busy bags are the best!  I love that they are a great alternative to screen usage.  There are some really great ideas out there on Pinterest and other blogs.  It is super easy to make them and they are life savers on any trip.  Here are some highlights from the busy bags we have been using on our most recent trips.

Assalamu’alaikum & Marhaba,

We are going to wrap up our winter theme soon.   Layaan, Muhammad, and I made an arctic sensorial bin using fake snow and arctic animals together.  I also printed out nomenclature cards of the animals in Arabic to match with the toys.  This activity is perfect for all age groups.  You can make it as easy and as challenging as you need for the child’s age. Our Week in Pictures

Assalamu’alaikum & Marhaba!

I think our weekly picture posts are becoming a little too wordy.  Rather than share every detail of our days, which can be a little redundant, I have decided to just share some highlights.  For the particularly interesting activities and events, I will do separate longer posts.

Our Week in Pictures

Assalamau’alaikum & Marhaba!

Here is a roundup of our activities this week.  It was an intense one after the break and trying to get back into a routine.  We returned from Taiwan on Sunday.  Layaan’s school started again on Tuesday.  And I was backed up trying to gather supplies, make materials, and keep the kids happy.

Layaan asks me daily if she can “do something fun” with Mama, which is her way of telling me she wants to do an activity together.  Alhamdulillah (Prasie be to God), it is a wonderful feeling that they both find these activities enjoyable.  I feel reassured that I am not overwhelming them and encouraged to keep doing what I am, Insha’Allah (God willing).  I hope that I can continue to foster their love of learning through play.

Simple Matchstick Threading

Today I am sharing a quick and easy activity to prepare for 13-17 month olds.  Threading is one of the first lessons I did with Muhammad last month.  It is an excellent way to exercise fine motor skills, particularly the pincer grasp, hand-eye coordination, strengthening finger muscles, and increasing concentration.  An excellent article that touches on the developmental benefits of threading and beading is linked here.
